What is different about painting on the coast

The salt air, the damp and the Estepona sun are harder on paint than they are inland. That is why each surface gets its own preparation and its own product, and you notice the difference after a few years.

Façades by the sea

Near the beach, salt sticks to the walls and the southern sun bleaches the colour. A façade painted without proper preparation cracks and peels before its time.

How we prepare it

A thorough clean of the surface, repair of flaking paint and cracks, and a stabilising primer when the surface is powdery.

Which paint it needs

Breathable, sun-resistant exterior paint. If there are hairline cracks, an elastomeric paint that stretches to cover them. The one your façade needs is written in the quote.

Interiors with damp and mould

In bathrooms, kitchens and poorly ventilated rooms, the coastal humidity condenses and leaves black marks on ceilings and in corners.

What we do

We treat the mould with a fungicide, let the wall dry and paint it with anti-mould paint.

When painting is not enough

If the stain comes from a leak, the water has to be stopped first. That is a waterproofing job, and we tell you at the visit before painting anything.

Railings, balustrades and woodwork

Iron by the sea rusts quickly, and the wood of doors and shutters dries out and splits in the sun.

On iron

We remove the rust, apply an anti-rust primer and finish with gloss.

On wood

Sanding and varnish or gloss, depending on the finish the piece already has.

Textured and damaged walls

Many flats in Estepona still have textured gotelé walls, or walls covered in patches from earlier repairs.

Skimming

We cover the texture with filler, sand the wall smooth and then paint. It is a separate item in the quote.

Cracks and flaking paint

We open up the crack, fill it and sand it before painting, so that it does not show through again.

We do not give a blind price per square metre, because a textured or damp wall is not worked in the same way as a smooth one. We come to see it at no cost and give you a fixed quote in writing within 48-72 working hours.

No. We work room by room, protect furniture and floors and tidy up every evening, so you can keep living in the house while the work is going on.
